Share Share
A group of enthusiasts of Smalltalk, a completely innovative programming language of great use in the world of education, started in Citilab this week.

Smalltalk.cat has been created in Citilab by a group of enthusiasts of the computer programming language that, 30 years after its creation, continues to be revolutionary. The group is made up of members of Citilab and the Departament de Llenguatges i Sistemes Informàtics of the UPC and held its first work meeting this week. The group aims to meet weekly so that the members can learn together and explore Smalltalk in depth, resolving doubts, clarifying specific aspects and creating new software.

A language for innovators
Smalltalk is a widely used programming language which permits the carrying out of computational tasks and works with virtual objects which can be assigned concrete functions, so that they behave in a determined manner when interacting with others. It began in the investigations carried out by Alan Kay, amongst others, during the 1960s at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Centre, to create a computer system oriented towards education and which would permit an environment open to experimentation, creation and investigation. These are the origins of computers as we understand them today: with mice, icons and desktop folders and networks which connect machines to one another.
